Ulkatcho Builds Clean Energy Future

Groundbreaking Milestone
A major shift is underway for Ulkatcho Nation, where clean energy is replacing diesel through a groundbreaking 3.8-megawatt site built in partnership with Ulkatcho Group of Companies and funded by the Community Energy Diesel Reduction (CEDR) program.
The groundbreaking ceremony reflected a unified vision of sustainability and self-reliance. Leaders spoke to the importance of long-term relationships, building capacity within the Nation, and sharing knowledge across generations. With the 20th screw pile driven into the ground and a 20-year agreement signed, the foundation is now set for a cleaner future.
A Clean Energy Shift
This site will enable BC Hydro to shut off its diesel generators 65 percent of the time, significantly reducing emissions while returning energy savings back to the community. The result: fewer emissions, more local revenue, and energy security for years to come.
Sustained Impact
This project isn’t just a win for the environment. It reflects Ulkatcho’s long-term vision to reinvest in the community, increase energy independence, and pave the way for other Nations to pursue similar transitions.

Learn More About CEDR
The Community Energy Diesel Reduction (CEDR) Program provides funding to help eligible remote communities transition away from diesel power and toward clean, renewable energy solutions. With streams supporting Community Energy Planning and Demand Side Management currently open for applications, CEDR offers a pathway for communities to access long-term support in their clean energy journeys.
