The K-12 Education Grant program supports BC First Nations Kindergarten to Grade 12 classes by funding projects that enhance learning experiences, foster higher educational aspirations, and promote student growth. Projects should strengthen connections to First Nations culture, traditions, and identity, building confidence and capacity.

Intake Frequency
The annual intake and approval process will open each calendar year in May, remaining open for two weeks.

Eligible Funding Activities
We welcome a variety of projects, as long as they include a BC First Nations element. Whether your initiative supports academic growth, cultural learning, or innovative education, we encourage you to apply. Below are some examples of past projects, but we can’t wait to see the ideas you bring forward.
Indigenous success and mentorship programs
After-school tutoring and homework clubs
Academic and Indigenous literacy initiatives
Science engagement through Indigenous knowledge
Land-based learning and cultural teachings

Cultural arts, beading, and creative workshops
Canoe journeys and outdoor cultural camps

Frequently Asked Questions
Can this funding be used for school supplies or equipment?
Yes, funding can be used for materials, supplies, or equipment necessary to support the approved project. This may include books, technology, art supplies, or other resources that enhance the learning experience and align with the project’s goals.
Can funding be used for salaries or honoraria?
No, salaries are not eligible. Facilitator fees and honorariums are eligible.
Can a school or organization submit more than one application?
No. Only one application may be submitted per school or organization.
What is an ineligible project or expense?
Examples are:
Tuition, fees, school-related costs, and curriculum-related costs generally covered by the Province and or School Board etc.
Existing administration costs and overhead costs
Capital expenditures not directly related to support the project
Existing staff wages or salaries
How to Apply
The K-12 application is hosted on the NRT Grant Portal, to apply please click on the link below or on the top right of the screen to create an NRT Portal Account.
Approval Process: To ensure fair and equitable access, NRT will use a lottery process to determine which eligible applications will be approved for funding. Selection will consider available funding, project capacity, and regional distribution. Applicants will be notified of the funding decision following the lottery process. If an applicant does not respond or complete required next steps on time, NRT may run another lottery.
