K-12 Education Grant

The K-12 Education Grant program supports BC First Nations Kindergarten to Grade 12 classes by funding projects that enhance learning experiences, foster higher educational aspirations, and promote student growth. Projects should strengthen connections to First Nations culture, traditions, and identity, building confidence and capacity.

  • B.C. First Nation Schools
  • B.C. Schools with classes with majority First Nation students

Intake Frequency


  • The annual intake and approval process will open each calendar year in May and close, the earlier of December or when the annual funding available has been exhausted.

Funding Amount


  • Up to $8,000 per year

Eligible Funding Activities


We welcome a variety of projects, as long as they include a BC First Nations element. Whether your initiative supports academic growth, cultural learning, or innovative education, we encourage you to apply. Below are some examples of past projects, but we can’t wait to see the ideas you bring forward.

  • Indigenous success and mentorship programs
  • After-school tutoring and homework clubs
  • Academic and Indigenous literacy initiatives
  • Science engagement through Indigenous knowledge
  • Land-based learning and cultural teachings
  • Math transformation with Indigenous perspectives
  • Cultural arts, beading, and creative workshops
  • Canoe journeys and outdoor cultural camps
  • Horseback riding and traditional skills camps
  • Summer learning and learn-to-swim programs

Can this funding be used for school supplies or equipment?

Yes, funding can be used for materials, supplies, or equipment necessary to support the approved project. This may include books, technology, art supplies, or other resources that enhance the learning experience and align with the project’s goals.

Can funding be used for salaries or honoraria?

Yes, funding can support salaries or honoraria for instructors, knowledge keepers, or specialists involved in delivering the project, as long as they directly contribute to the learning experience of BC First Nations students.

Can a school or organization submit more than one application?

Yes, multiple applications can be submitted if they are for different projects. However, funding is limited, and priority may be given to ensuring a fair distribution of funds across communities and schools.
