Sts’ailes | Traditional Food Revival

Restoring Wellness Through Culture and Food
Sts’ailes First Nation is revitalizing its food systems in a way that nourishes both body and spirit. With support from the Indigenous Food Security and Sovereignty Grant, the Nation is reintroducing whole, traditional foods into daily community life—strengthening cultural identity, health, and long-term sustainability.
What’s Happening in Sts’ailes
This project focuses on more than just growing food. It’s about healing through reconnection—to the land, to traditional foods, and to community knowledge. By bringing traditional foods back to the table, Sts’ailes is helping community members rebuild relationships with ancestral practices, while promoting healthier lifestyles rooted in Indigenous values.
The initiative also includes educational components—workshops, conversations, and shared meals—creating space for people to learn, teach, and grow together.
As shared in the video, “It’s about reconnecting with who we are, and remembering that food is medicine.”
Why This Work Matters for BC First Nations
Across British Columbia, First Nations are leading food sovereignty efforts that are deeply cultural, local, and powerful. The work happening in Sts’ailes shows how Indigenous food security is about more than access—it’s about identity, knowledge, and reclaiming systems that were always meant to nourish.
By restoring these systems, communities like Sts’ailes are planting seeds of wellness for generations to come.
