Seafood Growth in BC First Nations

Supporting Indigenous Entrepreneurs in a Vital Sector
The Seafood Business Accelerator is helping BC First Nations grow leadership and capacity in one of the province’s most essential industries. Through a focus on Indigenous seafood business development, this program supports entrepreneurs as they launch and scale sustainable, community-led ventures across British Columbia.
Funded through the Indigenous Food Security and Sovereignty Grant, the Seafood Business Accelerator offers tailored business training, mentorship, and culturally grounded support to Indigenous participants working in harvesting, processing, and seafood-based enterprise.
What’s Happening in the Seafood Business Accelerator
Participants gain access to expert coaching, peer connections, and practical tools to help grow seafood ventures that reflect their Nation’s values and long-term vision.
We had the privilege of attending a session where participants shared their business ideas. It was powerful to sit in a room full of energy, purpose, and cultural pride. These entrepreneurs are building more than businesses—they’re creating opportunity, resilience, and a stronger future for their communities.
As one participant shared, “We’re not just working in seafood—we’re building something that feeds our Nation and our future.”
Why This Matters for BC First Nations
The seafood industry is deeply connected to the identity, economy, and food systems of many BC First Nations. Programs like this help ensure Indigenous entrepreneurs can reclaim leadership in this space while creating jobs, supporting cultural revitalization, and advancing food sovereignty.
Investing in Indigenous seafood business means investing in long-term, community-led solutions that are built to last.
