Youth Warriors Leading a Sustainable Future

The Nuu-chah-nulth Youth Warrior Family Society is creating space for Indigenous youth to reconnect with their culture, land, and identity—season by season. Supported by the Indigenous Food Security and Sovereignty Grant, this community-led initiative is built on one powerful foundation: passing down traditional knowledge through action.

What’s Happening in Nuu-chah-nulth Territory

Whether it’s harvesting, preserving, medicine making, or other land-based teachings, the Youth Warrior Family Society adapts its programs to the natural rhythms of the territory. Youth work alongside Elders and knowledge keepers year-round—learning how to gather, prepare, and sustain their communities using Indigenous ways of knowing.

It’s not about one project—it’s a lifestyle. A path that teaches young people how to provide for their communities while honouring the practices that have fed and supported their Nations for generations.

As shared in the video, “We’re not just teaching how to harvest food. We’re teaching how to care for each other, our land, and our future.”

Why This Work Matters for BC First Nations

Across BC, First Nations are leading powerful movements to reclaim food systems that are cultural, sustainable, and deeply connected to place. The Youth Warrior Family Society is a reminder that sovereignty starts at home—through everyday actions, shared teachings, and the empowerment of young people.

These youth are not only learning to feed their communities—they’re becoming leaders of a more grounded, sustainable future.
