Building Connection, Culture, and Joy for Elders
In the heart of New Aiyansh, the Elders Centre has become more than just a gathering place—it’s a space for healing, laughter, and cultural connection. With support from the Elder Grant, the centre was able to expand its offerings by purchasing games and activities that invite community Elders to come together, share stories, and enjoy one another’s company.
What’s Happening in New Aiyansh
After years of isolation and disconnection, the revitalized Elders Centre has become a vibrant hub where joy is front and centre. The new games and interactive activities funded by the Elder Grant have transformed the space into a welcoming environment—encouraging Elders to gather, build friendships, and keep traditions alive.
As seen in the video, it’s the small things—laughter over a card game, stories passed down in a circle, shared smiles across the room—that are making a big difference in the lives of New Aiyansh’s Elders.

Honouring Elders Through the Elder Grant
The Elder Grant program provides funding opportunities to elder groups in First Nation communities across British Columbia to improve access and the quality of elder experiences and activities. These projects support inclusion, belonging, cultural and emotional connection, mobility, health, and physical well-being.
In New Aiyansh, that meant enhancing their Elders’ experience with fun, engaging games that sparked laughter, brought people together, and helped rebuild community after years of isolation. It’s one example of how this grant is helping Elders thrive—on their own terms, in their own communities.
