Clean energy projects come in many shapes and sizes and include a range of technologies that generate electricity producing little to no greenhouse gas emissions. Project technologies can include solar power, wind energy, hydropower, geothermal energy, and biomass energy.
Clean energy projects have the potential to deliver a host of benefits to First Nation communities, including reducing dependence on fossil fuels, stimulating economic growth, improving energy security and self-sufficiency, and supporting self-determination goals.
The Clean Energy Resource Hub includes a variety of resources to help First Nations plan and advance clean energy projects. The resources are organized according to key project milestones and related topics.

Clean Energy Project Development Lifecycle
Clean energy projects go through several phases before they are ready for construction, this is often referred to as the project development lifecycle. Early phases can include completing a Community Energy Plan, undertaking feasibility studies to determine technology type and project size, engaging with community members, and assembling the project team. Proponents of clean energy projects must also meet technical, commercial, and permitting requirements to develop a project. These later phases include completing engineering and scientific studies, demonstrating the viability of project to potential investors to secure funding, and preparing bids and commercial contractors for project construction.
This section provides an overview of the key considerations for each project phase in the clean energy project development lifecycle. It is intended to provide high-level information, rather than detailed instructions for developing a clean energy project.More comprehensive and detailed guidance can be found in the Project Development Guides & Resources section, as well as in other resources linked throughout the webpage. Please note that some stages may overlap with each other during the project development process.

Available Grants
Each Grant will be $200,000 and disbursed in 2 payments of $100,000 over 2 years.
Funding Process
Funding Approval / Evaluations Process
The NRT will validate applications based on organization and project eligibility. Please allow 1 to 2 weeks after submitting a fully complete application to receive a funding decision.
Deliverable and Reporting Requirements
This funding program aims to share resources, knowledge, and lessons learned on completed projects such that other Nations and Indigenous communities contemplating the same or similar project can benefit to improve expectations of a successful project. NRT uses a basic final report tool and other communication approaches to identify successes, challenges, and other learning opportunities for each applicant.

Intake Frequency
The PRF is a limited program fund which will have a continuous intake and approval process until all funds are committed.
Please note that the actual closing dates below are subject to change and will end earlier of the intake closing date indicated or when the annual funding available has been exhausted.
