Squamish Nation | NRT’s Nation Building Grant

Success Story: Squamish Nation’s Climate Action Strategy
Squamish Nation is leading the way in environmental stewardship with a groundbreaking Climate Action Strategy, made possible through the Nation Building Grant from New Relationship Trust (NRT). This initiative supports First Nations in reclaiming governance, strengthening community resilience, and driving self-determined projects that create lasting impact.
Creating a Community-Driven Climate Action Plan
With support from the Nation Building Grant, Squamish Nation developed a strategy rooted in community voices. Their team engaged Squamish Nation Peoples through interviews and discussions, ensuring that the plan reflected traditional knowledge, cultural values, and community priorities for climate action.
The Climate Action Strategy focuses on:
- Sustainable energy solutions to reduce environmental impact.
- Community-led decision-making on climate resilience.
- Integration of Indigenous knowledge into modern environmental planning.
This project highlights the power of self-determined climate leadership, showing how First Nations can create strategies that honor culture, land, and future generations.
