# New Relationship Trust (NRT)

## Who We Are
New Relationship Trust (NRT) is a BC-based Indigenous-led nonprofit organization that distributes funding to First Nations communities across British Columbia. Established in 2006 through the New Relationship Trust Act, NRT manages a $521 million portfolio in perpetuity, funding operations and grant programs through investment income.

NRT is governed by a 100% Indigenous board of directors and operates independently of government direction. It is a registered nonprofit with audited financials, published annual impact reports, and full public accountability.

## Philanthropic Opportunity
NRT welcomes philanthropic partners including foundations, family offices, and corporate giving programs. Philanthropic contributions expand NRT's capacity beyond its endowment, enabling greater reach and impact across BC First Nations communities. NRT issues official donation receipts and directs 100% of donations to BC First Nations priorities with zero or minimal administration fees.

## Programs
NRT administers both core programs funded through its endowment and strategic programs funded through government and philanthropic partnerships.

Core programs include nation building grants, education grants, elder grants, youth grants, language grants, equity matching, and scholarships and bursaries for First Nations post-secondary students.

Strategic programs include the Declaration Act Engagement Fund (DAEF), Indigenous Food Security and Sovereignty, BC Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative, Community Energy and Diesel Reduction, Indigenous Labour Market Fund, Guardians and Stewardship Training Initiative, Indigenous Cannabis Business Fund, and the Indigenous Co-operative Initiative.

## Eligibility (General)
- Most programs serve BC First Nations bands, treaty nations, and wholly owned Indigenous organizations
- Métis eligibility varies by program
- Tribal Councils are not eligible for DAEF; individual member nations must apply
